Merry Christmas to all...

Merry Christmas GFC family.
I hope people are finding the Joy of the season even among all the trials and challenges that always seem to arise this time of year.

We have a few things coming up over the next few weeks.

This Sunday Dec 16th is missions Sunday, we'll be talking about our partnership with Hockey Ministries International which allows us to do a chapel program with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.  We have our 3rd chapel of the season on Dec. 18th.

On Dec. 23rd we will have a special service for our morning worship service.  There will be several people sharing their musical talents and the Kings Kids will do a Nativity story.  After the service we will have a soup and sandwich lunch together (all are welcome and encouraged to bring something tasty to share)  After Lunch we will be travelling to nursing homes together to sing Christmas carols, give out cards and pray with seniors.  Please join us as we reach out to people this Christmas with the love and good news of the season.

We'll also have a Christmas Eve service at 6:30pm.  Please take this opportunity to invite family, friends and neighbors out to hear the real reason we celebrate this time of year.

Prayer of Hope and Operation Christmas Child and More...

It's Operation Christmas Child time again.  Everyone has the opportunity to make a difference in a child's life and share Jesus love.  Get your box and packing instructions from the church, go shopping, pack your box and return it to the church on November 18th.  We'll pray together over the boxes that Jesus will express himself to these kids through the gift and the people who get to give them out.

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Chapels will be starting again on November 6th, please be in prayer for the team and Pastor Rick, Joe and Lloyd as we go and share the good news with some young men who are away from family and friends, living out their dream and in the spotlight of CB hockey fans.

The Council begins this Friday, November 2nd.  The new leadership structure will get underway as people begin to meet and seek God for direction on where we go as a church.  God has the answers and the plan for how this church reaches the community - the island - the world - with the Gospel.  Please pray for the council members, that they would be of one heart and mind, focused on Jesus and full of grace and mercy toward one and other.
A large team of volunteers will be here to work on the Balls Creek School Project.  25 people from South Carolina will be dry-walling, insulating and cleaning up.  Pray for a great atmosphere of team work and productivity for the team.  There will be a celebration concert and fundraiser Friday, November 9th, at the Balls Creek school to thank Jesus for all the progress on the school to this point.  Musical guest will include Sheldon Chant, Eric Angus Whyte, Lena Murphy, Soyna McVicar and Wrapped in Rona.

Grace Anniversary Weekend

Hello Friends of Grace, This weekend will be our Anniversary Celebration.  Grace has been here now 21 years and we will have some special events to celebrate God's faithfulness to us and also celebrate the hard work of Wayne MacLeod over the years as he's worked on Bible commentary and study material to send to pastors and missionaries around the world.  He has recently finished his work on a complete commentary series on every book of the Bible.  Please join us for one of our special events and come to worship with us on Sunday morning when Wayne will be sharing the word with us.

Getting back in the swing of things

The sun is setting on summer.  As we hold on to the last few weeks of summery nights and try to get back into routines of life - packing lunches for school, returning from vacations, stacking wood for winter - take a few moments to be thankful for every good things the Lord has shown you this past season and get ready for a wonderful fall.

There are lots of exciting opportunities on the horizon to meet with the family of God and celebrate Jesus.  Just to mention a few:
*Cape Breton Bible Camp Teen Retreat will be Sept. 21-23.  Please think about encouraging some young person you know to come to the retreat.  Even consider sponsoring someone to go.  They will have such an amazing opportunity to encounter Jesus.  On Saturday night we encourage you to come out for the evening chapel, it's always a great time of worship and Pierre Chiasson will be speaking.
*Oct. 6th there will be a worship night at Lighthouse Glace Bay with Life Support and Joe Cook.  Then they will join us to lead on Sunday morning at Grace on Oct.7th
*Oct 13-14th will be our Anniversary weekend.  There is a covered dish potluck on Saturday night with a traditional hymn sing.  Sunday morning we will have a guest speaker and Sunday evening will be an evening to honor Wayne MacLeod's achievement of completing bible study commentaries for the entire bible.
*Oct. 21 will be the Sydney Mines Gathering of Hope.  Several churches in Sydney Mines will gather together to pray and seek the Lord.
*Nov. 4th will be the Cape Breton Prayer of Hope.  This will be a gathering of Christians from across Cape Breton to pray together and worship together.  It's at the Membertou Trade and Convention Center.  As a lead up to this event, churches from different regions of Cape Breton will take a day in the week leading up the the Prayer of Hope to do 24 hours of prayer.  There will also be a prayer room open in Sydney 24/7 for the week leading up to the Event.  There will be further information on how to take part as we get closer to the date.
*there will also be some worship services in Margaree this fall, dates have not been confirmed yet but if anyone is interested in travelling up to the valley talk to Joe about when those will be.

We are very close to starting the new leadership council at Grace.  This will hopefully help spark some new vision and renewed interest for people to take an active role in what the Lord has for Grace Fellowship Church.  Please pray for the session as they work out the final details before unveiling the council.

Hello Grace Family, I hope everyone is getting time, or taking time even if you don't think you have it, to enjoy the beautiful weather.  Make sure you get out and enjoy some of this beautiful place God has given us to live in.

There's lots happening over the next weeks for people to get involved in and pray for as you can see in the bulletin under upcoming activities.  Please especially keep Scott Anderson's family in prayer during this time. Jean Carlo has a tough summer ahead with healing and rehab.  And the Ethiopia Journey 117 team sets sail on Sunday after the morning church service.  And there are plenty of other prayer requests listed.

We had a open air service on the boardwalk in North Sydney this past Sunday with Cape Breton Christian Fellowship and there will be another one on August 12th.  Please come out and enjoy the Gospel being proclaimed and Jesus being lifted up for all to see and hear.

Cape Breton Bible Camp is at the half-way point already.  They have seen big answers to prayer with good numbers of campers (40+ each week) and staff turning up at just the right time when they thought they would be short.  Keep them in prayer as the show Jesus' love to kids from all over the island.

Also, the 10th Annual Johnny Miles Festival is coming up July 30th to August 5th.  There are lots of activities happening in the community for people to come out and support.  I've been challenged recently by a statement I heard, "if your church disappeared from your community, would anyone notice?"  Please come out and support this week long event.  As a church, we are not nearly active enough in the community this is a perfect opportunity.  Lots of fun for everyone, lots of opportunity to get to know people we might not normally come in contact with.  Of particular interest is the "Volksmarch" on Sunday at 1:30.  What a great opportunity to walk around Sydney Mines and pray, chat with people and Thank God for this town and the people in it who He loves and wants to know Him.

The rain in May falls mainly on the Cape

The Tulips are open, the leaves are breaking out and the lawn needs cut again... You've got to love this time of year, even if it's been a little damp.  The monthly mission Sunday was last week, below is the bulletin featuring another of our wonderful missionary couples, Wayne and Diane MacLeod.  Please keep them in prayer as Wayne is off to Cuba for a week to speak at a number of conferences, as well as working on his publishing ministry which provides bible study material all around the world.  See more about their work at

Please keep the Ethiopia, Journey 117 trip in prayer as the team has now settled out to 5 people (plus 8 others from the U.S. that we'll join up with).  The conference-call discipleship will begin soon with the other team members and several fundraiser will take place over the next month.

As you can see people are taking the "be fruitful and multiply" command seriously.  Several more babies will be added to the grace fellowship family over the next months.  Jamie and Melissa Whyte are expecting at the end of this month!

Sarah Johnston will be hosting another Ladies Night at her house on May 24th.  Come out and enjoy some fellowship and fun.

The Elders are continuing to work towards the new leadership council, they are seeking the Lord's direction for who he would have lead the various councils, please keep them in prayer.

Summer is here!!! sort of...

Hello Friends of Grace, Hope everyone has been enjoying these teaser days of warm weather.  Here's a copy of last week's bulletin in case you didn't make it, there are some prayer requests, upcoming activities and a letter from Danny and Darlene MacLennan talking about what the Lord has them up to these days.  Danny will be speaking on Sunday April 29 in our morning service, we're excited to hear what the Lord has put on his heart.

The girls going on the Ethiopia trip are doing a bunch of fundraisers over the next couple months, one thing they will do is a yard sale, so as you do your spring cleaning, if you have anything you want to get rid of that may catch a couple bucks at a yard sale, please consider donating it to the girls.  We've already had one gentlemen donate a couple loads of stuff that he was cleaning out of a house he's about to sell.  Every little bit adds up.  There is also a Coffee house coming up on May 4th and a Dinner on May 11th.  More to come!

and check out the new Grace Fellowship Facebook page

First, we will be doing another week of 24/7 prayer during passion week.  This will be similar to the week we did last year to bring in the new year.  This year we will bring the Easter weekend in full of prayer and focus on Jesus, since that what Easter is really about.

March Missions Madness

The winter is flying by as the Kingdom marches onward.  March is shaping up to be another packed month of great things happening out of our little family of believers.  This week the Nicaragua Dental Team will be busy cleaning and fixing teeth from Mach 4-9th.  The teeth cleaning, however, is just the door the Lord has opened for this team to go and share the Gospel with a community they have built a strong relationship with over the past few years.  In particular this year they are praying to see a real change in the attitudes of the men in the community to receive hope and power from God to take responsibility and leadership of their struggling community.  Also they met a boy name who has a very bad case of clubfoot which would have been easily fixed medically in Canada but has gone untreated.  They (and we as a church) are praying for complete healing for this boy to show the power and glory of Jesus to this community.  What hope it would bring!

We are also sending off a second mission team this month, Kyle MacLeod and Erik Kimbley will be going for two weeks with Missionary Flights International to help load and unload cargo and supplies for missionaries in the Caribbean.  Pray that they don't get a bad sunburn while we are here locked into winter, just kidding.  Pray that they have an amazing encounter with Jesus as they serve alongside these committed servants of the kingdom who make it possible for many men and women to be on the ground in places like Haiti and DR.

And just to add to the March Missions Madness, Jesus to the Nations is March 23-25.  This is the annual Atlantic Canada missions conference held at Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax.  If you're feeling called to go, this is the place to find out where you might be called.  Many major missions organizations gather to offer info on all the opportunities to take the name of Jesus to just about anywhere you can think of.  The speaker this year are Shane Claiborne, K.P. Yohannan, and Freda Smallwood.  There are is always a great selection of workshops to take part in to learn about more focused and practical aspects of being involved in missions.  Go, it could change your life.

If that isn't enough to keep you engaged and in prayer, here's a few more things happening this month.
*Invisible Children will be in Glace Bay at The Undercurrent on Monday March 5 to do a presentation on how you can help free child soldiers in Uganda.  They have a rescued child soldier traveling with them this year as ambassador to that cause.
*The Live Different Team is traveling through this weekend and will stay with us for a night on their way to Newfoundland.
*The Maragree Youth Group will be coming to hang out with us and go to Eagles game next Friday.  We'll also have our last Eagles chapel for the season on March 6th.  Please pray for those guys and that we would have more contact with them other than our monthly chapel.
*The Elders and Deacons are starting to meet to put wheels under their leadership development plan.  Please be in prayer about how the Lord would have you get more actively involved as the new committee's and leadership teams begin to roll out over the next months.
*There is a Youth Discipleship Series starting in April called "the Disciple Road".  We're attempting to get some young adults who have been on missions, bible school, DTS, etc. involved as teacher/mentors as some of our youth prepare to go off to Ethiopia (and possibly other missions) this summer.  Please pray for wisdom  and commitment in designing this series.
*Perinatal Support Group is held each Monday at 7pm at Terri and Les Carabin's.  If you know of any woman in second or third trimester of pregnancy, they can come with a support partner.  2052 Point Edward Highway, call 322-0522 for more info.

That should keep you busy for a day or two,
Be Blessed,

Busy Month Ahead

This month is packed full of exciting Kingdom activity, there's something for everyone to get involved in.

First and most important is our Annual General Meeting.  This Thursday, Feb. 9th we will meet together at 7:00 pm.  We'll go through reports and other church business, but we also ask that people come ready to seek the Lord's will for our church as we ask, together, for vision for our congregation.  We are asking that, if you are able, you would fast and pray for the day.  We will have a lunch together after the meeting to break the fast and give thanks to God for his goodness and faithfulness to answer us as we earnestly seek him.

The other big event this month is Life Direction Week.  The weekend is packed full of teaching, workshops, worship and fellowship time.  We have Mark Griffin coming as our keynote speaker this year.  He is a missionary planting churches in Germany.  We are very excited to hear some wisdom and insight into reaching people with the Gospel.  Click on the picture (above) to go the the Facebook page for more details on the weekend or contact Joey Cook (info on the left).  Mark will be speaking at Grace on Sunday, Feb. 19th so if you are unable to come to the weekend, you'll at least get to hear him speak if you come to church.

Also, two new bible studies will be starting this month.  Sharon Barnes will be teaching through Beth Moore's study called, "Living Beyond Yourself".  It is a DVD based study with a work book component.  Starting February 17th (Fridays) at 9:30-11:30am at Harvest House North Sydney.  And a second night starting on February 21st (Tuesdays) at 7:00-9:00pm at Grace Fellowship.  Please Contact Sharon at 736-9499 for more info or click the banner below to see a sample of the study.

This is also a sending and returning month.  Dave MacIntyre has returned from his YWAM New Zealand DTS and we will be hearing a report from him.  We'll also be sending off another young man, Kristian Whyte on a similar adventure with Jesus as he leaves for YWAM Australia DTS.  We will have prayer and commissioning for him this coming Sunday.  Also, two more of our young men, Erik Kimbley and Kyle MacLeod will be going a short term mission over March break, helping load and unload cargo planes taking supplies into Haiti.  And on February 26th, we will commission the Nicaragua Dental Team who leave in early March.

On February 10th at 7:30, Chalk Dust will be hosting a Family Ceilidh at Harvest House North Sydney.
And on February 21st we will have another Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Chapel.

I hope you'll get involved in one or more of the exciting opportunities this month to see the Kingdom of Heaven spread in Cape Breton.

Be Blessed.

Bible Studies and Annual Meeting coming up

Hello Friends.
there are a few things on the horizon connected with Grace that you can be praying for and thinking about joining in.

Sharon Barnes is working on starting a Ladies Bible Study. She'll be using Beth Moore's 10 week DVD series called Living Beyond Yourself. Please talk to Sharon if you're interested in being part of this study. A group of women did this study in Sydney in the fall and found it to be very impacting and practical in learning to live out who God made them to be as women, wives, mothers, friends...

Annual reports are due this Sunday if you responsible for any ministries within the church. The annual general meeting will be on Thursday, February 9th at 7:00pm. This is an important meeting to seek God's will for our church's direction as we go into 2012 and beyond. Please be in prayer as to what we need to talk about (and what we don't need to talk about) at this particular meeting.

On Saturday's there is Public Skating at C200. This Saturday some of the youth group is planning to go, anyone who likes skating should join us. It's $4 each.

Please keep the Harvest House and Screaming Eagles Chapels in prayer, as well as any other outreach ministries that you know are happening. God has opened doors for us to take Jesus outside our own four walls, pray he'll give us the ability to share him with others.

Check out the Youth Spot if you want to know what's coming up for your kids!
